The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has accredited undergraduate Building programmes in four Nigerian universities and approved the registration of 83 new practitioners.
The decisions were taken at CORBON’s 125th statutory meeting held on Tuesday, at the Council’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and obtained by pointblanknews.com, the Council stated that it approved, “pursuant to Section 2(1)d of its establishing Act, the accreditation of undergraduate Building programmes in the following four universities for a period of five years: Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Federal University of Technology, Minna; Osun State University, Osogbo; and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti.”
The communiqué was signed by Registrar & Secretary to Council Adetunji Adeniran.
The Council also approved the results of the 2025 first application cycle, during which 83 applicants qualified for registration as professional Builders.
In addition, CORBON announced the development of a framework for Special Registration of Builders in line with Section 11 of the Builders (Registration, etc.) Act CAP B13, LFN 2004.
The meeting further approved criteria and procedures for the registration of other categories of building practitioners. These include Building Technologists, Building Technicians, and Building Craftsmen. According to the communiqué, registration for these categories is to commence forthwith.
CORBON also considered and adopted the draft regulations concerning the practice of Building Structures, Building Services, and Facilities Management. The regulations are to undergo necessary statutory processes ahead of their official issuance.
The Council expressed appreciation to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, for his consistent support and engagement with CORBON.
“Council appreciates the Honourable Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, for his continuous support and recognition of Council in the affairs of the ministry,” the communiqué stated.
Reaffirming its mission, the Council pledged to continue supporting the safe and sustainable development of Nigeria’s building sector.
“Council remains committed towards ensuring Registered Builders continue to provide services towards safe and sustainable development of building for national development,” it stated.
