The African Democratic Party (ADC) on Sunday reminded Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu requested that he be voted out if he fails to provide stable and affordable power and charged the electoral to keep the president’s wishes.
The President had during his campaign tour in December 2022 prior to his election declared, “If I don’t give you constant electricity for four years , when I come back for second term, don’t vote for me,” Tinubu declared
Reminding President of his covenant with the electorate, the ADC in a series of post by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba on his X handle on wrote,
“Today, we just want to take some time to remind President Tinubu that he promised Nigerians uninterrupted electricity within four years.
“Yes, that’s right! Mr. President promised us 24/7 power. All by himself.
“Yet today, the facts speak louder than Mr. President’s penchant for broken promises:
“Since Tinubu took office, electricity tariff have jumped by 240%, but the grid has collapsed 12 times, plunging millions of homes and businesses into repeated darkness.
“Over 90 million Nigerians still lack electricity, while many get just 4 to 6 hours a day under Tinubu’s failed Band A–E system.
“In rural communities, most of Nigeria’s 50 million families remain completely off the grid, with no access to electricity at all.
“Yet, Mr. President still has not moved the needle. In 26 months, there has been no major power sector reforms, no clear roadmap, and no sense of urgency.
“We are past the halfway mark of this administration, and millions of Nigerians are still charging their phones at mobile charging kiosks, and spending hundreds of thousands to fuel their generators.
“Mr. President, on this fine Sunday morning, we ask:
“Where is the light?
“‘What happened to your promise?
‘And how much longer do Nigerians have to wait in the dark?
“Mr. President, you once said: “If I don’t give you electricity, don’t vote for me.
“Well, Nigerians are listening. And come 2027, we intend to grant your wish.” Abdullahi wrote.
Since the coalition was consumated, ADC had been gaining popularity and acceptance, especially among young voters, civil society groups, and politically disenchanted Nigerians seeking alternatives to the dominant APC and PDP and Labour Party (LP).
Though still relatively small in national reach, the party old ADC had built a reputation for promoting internal democracy, inclusiveness, and issue-based politics.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the party has intensified its expansion strategy and political recruitment drive aimed at strengthening its national presence. The party has become a melting pot for influential political figures.
ADC’s new leadership has positioned the party as a viable third force, offering an alternative platform for reform-minded politicians, technocrats, youth activists, and defectors seeking renewed relevance.
By leveraging its recent coalition-building efforts and unveiling a mega political alliance, ADC is tapping into growing public dissatisfaction with the status quo.
