The Kebbi State Government has appointed an 18-member organising committee for the good governance tour being led by Information Minister Labaran Maku.
Chairman of the main organising committee, Alhaji Mansur Shehu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi that the visit would be from April 17 to April 20.
Shehu, who is also the state Chairman of the PDP, said: “The state is fully prepared for the ministerial visit, especially as funds had been released and adequate arrangements put in place.’’
He did not however reveal the amount earmarked by the state for the tour.
The chairman said sub-committees appointed included those for publicity, project identification, project inspection and security.
“We are working round the clock to ensure the tour was successful,” he assured.
According to him, the tour would involve inspection and commissioning of local, state and federal government projects across the state.
He said the state government was happy with the Federal Government for establishing a Central Bank Cash Office, silos, FM Radio Station, as well as a federal university.
But Shehu said the non-completion of the 65 KVA power supply and power injection project located in Birnin Kebbi and Yauri local government areas respectively had left a sour taste in the mouth.
“The non-completion of the projects had hindered electricity supply,’’ he said.
Shehu said the projects were relevant to the state especially as power supply would be available for 18 hours on a daily basis while social and economic activities would be improved.
He appealed to the people of the state to support the tour by demonstrating hospitality to the visitors, saying “the state owned radio and television station had been directed to sustain public awareness on the tour.
“We feel the minister would stay longer than four days to inspect and commission laudable projects provided by this administration in the past five years in spite of the poor financial base of the state.’’
