Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has asked President Bola Tinubu to resign following the deadly attack on a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, which left three worshippers dead and several others kidnapped.
Gunmen suspected to be bandits had stormed the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, during a worship service, shooting sporadically and sending congregants scrambling for safety. One victim was found dead inside the church, while two other bodies were recovered in a nearby bush.
A local vigilante was also injured, and a number of worshippers, including the pastor, were abducted.
A viral video from the scene which surfaced on Tuesday, showed armed men pursuing terrified worshippers into adjoining rooms and looting personal belongings left behind during the chaos.
The incident sparked outrage in the community, as angry youths blocked the Kwara–Kogi highway to protest rising insecurity in the area.
In a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Falz condemned the attack and berated President Tinubu for what he described as a continued failure to protect Nigerians.
He argued that the president had lost the moral standing to remain in office, citing Tinubu’s 2014 call for then-President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over similar security concerns.
“You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!” he wrote.
He further queried: “How many more people have to be kidnapped and murdered in cold blood? How many more futures do you want to erase with your incompetence and inaction?”
Following the attack, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, requested additional security reinforcements to the community.
Soldiers have since been deployed to Eruku as part of efforts to track down the attackers and rescue the abducted victims.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also condemned the incident, calling on the federal government to urgently mobilize security assets to secure the release of the kidnapped worshippers.
Security operations were ongoing at press time.
