The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, to chair its National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
The party announced the composition of the campaign council and its sub-committees in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the statement, Uzodimma will spearhead the party’s campaign efforts ahead of the crucial governorship poll.
“The National Campaign Council is chaired by H.E. Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum,” the statement read.
The APC also appointed Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, as co-chairmen of the council.
Also named to the campaign leadership are the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who will serve as Deputy Chairman, and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, who will serve as Secretary.
According to the party, the council comprises prominent party leaders, governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, and other key stakeholders drawn from across the country.
The APC said the broad-based composition of the council reflects its determination to mobilise the party’s structures nationwide and secure victory in the Osun governorship election.
To strengthen its campaign machinery, the party also constituted specialised sub-committees covering election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, persons with disabilities mobilisation, and secretariat functions.
The party further announced that the inauguration of the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja, beginning at 12:00 noon.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun State governorship election for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with political parties intensifying campaigns and strategic preparations ahead of the contest.
