Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, saying the outcome of the governorship election reflects the choice of the people as expressed through the ballot box.
Atiku, in messages posted on his official Facebook and X accounts on Sunday, commended the people of Osun State for their peaceful participation in the election and congratulated Adeleke on securing another four-year term.
“I congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Governor of Osun State.
“His victory demonstrates the choice of the people of Osun as expressed at the ballot box. I commend the people for their passion and peaceful participation.
“I wish Governor Adeleke continued success as he continues to serve them. -AA,” Atiku said.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The election has attracted reactions from prominent political leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, who also congratulated Adeleke on his victory.
Reacting to his victory, Adeleke said he expected Oyebamiji to equally reach out and congratulate him.
“I’m expecting Oyebamiji to call, congratulate me,” the governor said.
Celebrations erupted across Osun State following INEC’s declaration, with Osogbo, the state capital, witnessing scenes of jubilation as Adeleke’s supporters took to the streets to celebrate.
The supporters sang and danced, waved party flags and chanted victory songs, while similar celebrations were reported in other parts of the state.
The celebrations followed a keenly contested election that brought weeks of political campaigns, rallies and intense mobilisation to an end.
Adeleke’s re-election means he will remain in office for another four years, having first won the governorship election in 2022.
His victory has also generated significant national attention, with congratulatory messages from Atiku and Tinubu highlighting the broader political interest in the outcome of the Osun contest.
With the election concluded, attention is expected to shift to Adeleke’s second term and his plans for the state over the next four years.
For now, however, the mood remains largely celebratory among Adeleke’s supporters, who have continued to sing, dance and celebrate across Osogbo and other parts of Osun State.
