Mourinho Jokes About Press Conference Fatigue, Leaves Reporters Laughing

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has joked about the demanding routine of pre-match press conferences, telling reporters that the regular media obligations can sometimes feel like “too much.”

The Portuguese tactician made the remarks during his pre-match briefing at Ciudad Real Madrid ahead of Tuesday’s La Liga clash with Elche, comparing Spain’s media requirements with those he experienced during previous coaching jobs.

Mourinho said managers in some countries were occasionally allowed to skip press conferences, whereas in Spain, media engagements were required almost every week.

The veteran coach then turned the session into a light-hearted exchange when he noticed that none of the reporters had raised the recent penalty controversy involving Real Madrid.

“No questions about penalties? Strange, isn’t it?” Mourinho quipped.

His sarcastic remark prompted laughter from reporters and became the highlight of the briefing.

Despite the banter, Mourinho remained focused on football, saying his priority was to ensure the team continued to improve as Madrid travelled to Elche looking to maintain their momentum in the league.

The 63-year-old has long been regarded as one of football’s most charismatic and outspoken managers, with his press conferences frequently attracting as much attention as his performances on the touchline.
