A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) moments ago struck out a suit by three aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to stop the party’s special national convention slated for next month.
In striking out the suit, the presiding judge, Justice Suleiman Belgore said there is no law compelling litigants to continue to pursue a matter they seek to discontinue.
“You can’t force a plaintiff to continue to pursue a case, or to produce witnesses. Such would run against commonsense,” held Justice Belgore.
Recall that the party’s reconciliation committee chaired by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State had recently persuaded the three aggrieved members to withdraw their suit against the party.
The trioka of Abba K . Yale, Yahaya A. Sule and Bashir Maidugu had Thursday promised to withdraw the suit, having agreed with terms of agreement with the Dickson committee.
