Following the warrant of arrest purportedly obtained by operatives of the
State Security Service to effect the arrest of the former minister of
Federal Capital Territory and Deputy National Secretary of the All
Progressives Congress, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai this morning voluntarily
turns himself in at the headquarters of the State Security Services in
Abuja .
The SSS had declared El-Rufai wanted over a statement attributed to him
stating that the next (general) election are likely to be violent and many
people are likely going to die if any attempt was made to rig the
election.
El-Rufai was accompanied to the “Yellow House” headquarters of the SSS
about 9:20am in the company of his lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, Rivers State
Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Chris Ngige and a few family members.
The SSS operatives did not permit Governor Amaechi, Ngige and El-Rufai
family members to enter their premises.
The operatives of SSS last Friday stormed the house of the former minister
to arrest him following his refusal to honor the invitation by the
headquarters of the Service.
However, El-Rufai condemned the raid and said he ignored the invitation
because it was not backed by a valid arrest warrant.
The situation forced the service to obtain a warrant arrest as confirmed
by the SSS spokesperson, Ms. Marilyn Ogar.
