Police in Kano have arrested a 28 years old mother for attempting to murder her 11 years old son over a brawl with her ex-husband.
Mrs. Joy Akule confessed to the police that she wanted to kill her son as revenge to her ex-spouse who she described as wicked and heartless.
The teenage is receiving treatment at a Kano hospital.
The young mother, who separated with her husband, Thomas both of who hail from Katsina Alla in Benue State was charged with slashing the stomach of her boy with a sharp knife following which the intestine bulged out.
In a chat with newsmen, the young woman, confessed committing the offence adding that her intension was to cut the boy into from his waist region “so that I will be in possession of one part while my former husband will also take the other part”. According to her, they both separated some 3 years ago over irreconcilable disagreement.
At a press briefing earlier, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Idris while briefing newsmen on the activities of his command for the Month of July, said Joy was held over attempt to commit offence to wit culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt pointing out that she used a knife and stabbed her biological son on his stomach revealing his intestines “this sad incident, occurred at Sabuwa Abuja Quarters.
A victim, 11 years old, was rushed to the hospital for treatment and suspect confessed that she did it to cut off any relationship with her Ex husband who is a father of the boy.
“Suspects will appear in court as soon as investigations into the incident are concluded”.
Also, 17 officers of the Command were arrested following public complaints over alleged extortion at various check point in the commercial city of Kano, the Kano Command of Nigerian Police force, has arrested seven (7) of their own in connection with the sharp practice.
This was confirmed yesterday by the Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Idris during a Press Conference in which he revealed that the clamp down on Corrupt Officers was part of the efforts to sanities the force to provide better services to the people of the state.
The Police Chief said to this effect, seventeen 17 officers comprising six (6) inspectors, three (3) sergeants, five (5) corporals and three (3) constables are facing disciplinary actions for alleged extortion at the road blocks.
“Orderly room trial is in progress to ascertain their culpability and the public is hereby warned to desist from offering money for what ever reason to policemen on duty at check point for they too will be held culpable if caught. And any officer who demand money from members of the public should be reported to the police through emergency numbers and public complaint numbers 08032419754, 08123831575, 08099831808, 064977004, 08031803555, 08057959393”.
The Police Commissioner, also disclosed the arrest of an Ex Police Officer and a serving Mobile Police Officer allegedly using police uniform to execute their criminal acts.
He gave the name of one the officers as: one Shehu Garba who claimed to be attached to 36 Mobile Police Force in Birnin Kebbi who said he was on sick leaf. “ he was arrested after dishonestly collecting a Jincheng Motorcycle from the commercial Motorcyclist at a check point heading towards police Headquarters, Bompai, on the pretext that, he was going to submit his personal emolument form but absconded with the bike which he sold to one Abdullahi Auwalu of Rimin Kebe Quarters in Kano.
“This Officer, had committed similar offence in the past n Kano”.
The police commissioner also said his command has uncovered illegal Banking operations in Kano, stating that one Taofee Adekunle is helping the police in their investigation into the shock discovery.
Said he “one Taofee Adekunle ‘m’ of Kas Villa Rijiyar Zaki on Bayero University road, Kano was arrested at his residence. He defrauded people to the tune of N5, 500,000.00 (five million Five Hundred thousand naira) he is an indigene of Oyo State brought up in Kano and promoter of the illegal finance House named Finance Empowerment Program Organization with Headquarters at Ade Bayero Shopping Complex along New road in Sabon Gari, Kano”.
“He is also the initiator of Traders Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. Kano and their certificates of the registration of the 2 two outfits have been identified as fake as they were procured from touts who specialize in printing Government documents used in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public”.
“Adekunle collected a total of N5, 500,000.00 from 328 of his victims with the promise to give them credit facilities which he never did but rather disappeared with the amount. He is presently in police custody where his activities are under investigation”.
