The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has described the creation of
18 new additional Local Government Councils in the state by the outgoing
governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi as diversionary and a deliberate action to create confusion and
instability for the incoming government of Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose .
In a statement issued and signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the
party, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, the party said that the creation of the new local
councils by a government that is obviously leaving very soon smacks of hypocrisy and
betrayal.
The party wondered why the outgoing governor chose to tread on this
dangerous path of undemocratic practice by creating inchoate and illegal councils in the
last days of his administration after losing woefully to the PDP in the just concluded
election.
“This latest action is a ploy to give the in – coming administration a
hard start. This is unacceptable. The in – coming government of the PDP will review the
exercise and take appropriate steps to curtail this reckless show of shame.
“A government that said it had many redundant workers at the local government
Councils few months ago is now desperately recruiting workers just to
increase the debt profile of the government and create problem for the in coming
government.”
The party also said it has uncovered many plots of the drowning regime of
APC to create landmines and booby traps for the in coming administration and that
the party is also aware of the clandestine moves of the governor to cause disaffection
between the PDP and the people of the state, but added that steps will
be taken in the next few days to curtail the recklessness and undemocratic actions
of the outgoing government.
The party further stated that all these unnecessary actions of the
Governor and his co-travelers many not be unconnected with their disastrous outing during
the just concluded free and fair election in the state.
“We understand that the governor is yet to recover from the shock of his
loss of power in the just concluded election. We believe that this latest action
was borne out of frustration and hopelessness
We only hope that he will soon recover from the hang – over and face the
reality of a loss of power through the ballot.
The party therefore advised the Governor to shun those urging him to go to
court over the election and continue to behave gentlemanly rather than resort to
self- help and undemocratic behavior that may destroy his credentials.
The party also warned the outgoing governor to stop all manners of tricks
that may impede a smooth transition to the next government.
