Mrs Aisha Buhari has disclosed why she never joined the campaign train with her husband until the last presidential election.
She also said her husband’s administration would not tolerate the presence of pimps around the Presidential Villa, who claim to be personal assistants asking for huge sums from those desperate to have audience with the former President or his wife.
President Buhari had contested under the the All Nigeria peoples’ Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
According to Mrs Buhari who talked about security scare during campaigns, said his handlers were not comfortable with her joining her husband’s campaign. She however did not say why, leaving people to speculate it could be for religious or security reasons.
Mrs Buhari who spoke in Abuja said it took the insistence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for her to join the campaign.
She disclosed that after several calls from Tinubu, she agreed but had to consult her husband, who told her he had no problems so far those around him, give their nod.
According to her “I talked to my husband and he said he could not stop me from going for campaign if the people around him are comfortable with me going around to campaign for him.”
She recalled ” When Bola Ahmed Tinubu saw me in Lagos, he said ‘Hajia, are you here for campaign?’ And I said ‘No, I am here to condole the former deputy governor, Mrs. Ajoke.’ He said ‘no, after that, you supposed to start the campaign. I said ‘ok, let the men start and then we follow. Not long after, he started calling me if I could do it and I said ‘yes, why not?’
I will like to inform you that in the past regime, whether it is true or false, only God knows, some people were going round and parading themselves as PAs. If you wanted to see the First Lady, you will pay $30,000, $50,000 and if you are seeing the President, you will pay all that you have gathered in your lifetime.
“This will not happen in our regime. Whoever ask you to give a single penny in the name of coming to see the President or his wife is not our staff. He is not an APC member, it is a lie. Don’t be deceived.”
