President Muhammadu Buhari has been been urged to curb what a group tagged ‘ impunity of the DSS ‘
In a statement in Abuja the group Conscience Nigeria decried the recent harassment of some key officials of the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
While maintaining that it was in support of any anti corruption drive by the administration, the group said the fundamental tenets of democracy must be it’s guiding principle.
According to the statement signed by Executive Director, Tosin Adeyanju ” Three actions of the present government led us to this conclusion that if care is not taking rights and privileges of Nigerians will not be respected under this dispensation.”

BUHARI: STOP IMPUNITY OF THE STATE SECURITY SERVICE (SSS):
As we commend the anti-corruption drive of the present administration, we must not lose sleep about the fundamental tenets of democracy and its guiding principle.
We have watched with keen interest the actions taken so far since the present administration assume office and we are afraid that if caution is not taking we may be leading back to the dark days of dictatorship and this may truncate the democracy we enjoy today.
Three actions of the present government led us to this conclusion that if care is not taking rights and privileges of Nigerians will not be respected under this dispensation.
The other day it was Marilyn Oga, the spokesperson of DSS that was being hounded for doing her work under the past administration and the recent one that cause for alarm is the total intimidation, persecution and Gestapo style of the DSS in arresting the immediate past National Security Adviser Col Dansuki(RTD) and the present detention of the immediate past Chief Security Officer of former President Goodluck Jonathan Mr Obua.
If we could recall that during your last coming as President, this scenario took place and we are all witnesses to how that government ended. It is due to this fact that we urgently call for a stop to this illegal detention and harassment of citizens by DSS that have not been found culpable of this lies bandied around in a competent court of law but just because they serve their nation under a man that organized the best election in the history of this nation.
We will complement the administration drive towards the anti-corruption fight so long is not politically motivated as we see it today if our democracy must survive. Our democracy is on trial now and you must do everything possible to make all Nigeria feel the sense of belonging and not to be seen to be acting a script.
Signed:
Comrade Tosin Adeyanju
Executive Director, Conscience Nigeria
