NIMASA’S Tumaka Bags Award for Outstanding Industry Image Maker

The Head of Public Relations of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and

Safety Agency (NIMASA), Hajia Lami Tumaka has emerged the winner of the
Most Outstanding Maritime Industry Image Maker in the 6th National
Evergreen Maritime Merit Award.

Hajia Tumaka emerged winner through a rigorous process of survey carried
out by a team of maritime journalists with over 10 maritime industry image
makers in the contest.

Presenting the award at a colourful ceremony at the Mobil Pegasus Club in
Apapa, the organizers of the Awards led by Mr. Tunde Ojodu noted that
Hajia Tumaka was selected in recognition of her excellent relationship
with the maritime media, industry stakeholders and members of the public.

According to him, this explains why the management of NIMASA called on her
to once again reposition the image of the regulatory agency which was at
an all-time low before the removal of the former Director General in July
this year.

A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR), Hajia
Tumaka has close to three decades cognate experience in Journalism and
Public Relations in both the private and public sectors of Nigeria’s
economy at the highest level having served as Manager News with the
Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Public Relations Manager of Peugeot
Automobile Nigeria (PAN) Limited before joining the services of the then
National Maritime Authority (NMA).

Hajia Tumaka, a quintessential Public Relation and Strategic Media expert
is a Deputy Director with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety
Agency, NIMASA and the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Agency.

She is highly Resourceful, Analytical and posseses Good Communication and
Presentation skills.

Often referred to as the “Northern Belle,” Tumaka Born in the sixties in
Kaduna state, hails from Niger State and renowned for her unique prowess
in Managing Human Resources .

She Holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria.

A one-time Manager News with the NTA in Minna, Niger state, Hajia Tumaka
graduated with a distinction in Certificate in Basic Film Production from
the TV College, Jos, Plateau State.

Her quest to enhance her competence in the art of Public Relations saw her
sojourn to Holborn College in London England, where she earned a Diploma
in Public Relations in the year 1993.

Hajia Tumaka graduated from the Prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria
in 1979 with a Bachelors Degree in English Literature. She had her Primary
and Secondary Education in Minna, the capital city of Niger State.

Tumaka was a classroom teacher for five years before she joined public
service as a staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA. Where she
distinguished herself and rose to the position of News Editor within four
years in service

Hajia Tumaka made the switch from the practice of pure Journalism to that
of Public Relations and within five years rose to become the Public
Relations Manager of the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, in Kaduna in
1995.

After a distinguished career in the private sector, Hajia Tumaka returned
to serve Nigeria in the Public Sector when she joined the employment of
the then National Maritime Authority in 1998 as a Chief Research Officer,
and later transferred to the Public Relations Unit as an Assistant
Director.

Hajia Tumaka, the pioneer Chairperson of Niger State Women in Media, is a
Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, (NIPR) and Member
Soroptomist International.

Her hobbies are Reading, Travelling and meeting people.
