One was moved to pity when news broke that the spokesperson of the opposition party, the PDP, Mr Olisa Metuh who is currently a guest of the EFCC for his complicity in the Dasukigate bazaar attempted to eat the paper of his confession when it was presented to him for authentication prior to his arraignment by operatives of the anti graft agency.
One was shocked and puzzled as what could make a whole Olisa Metuh resort to want to eat paper when it’s not that there is famine or war in the land. Then I recollected that it was reported that he was on hunger strike and the reason for his action then sank in.
Also, some people have alluded to the fact that he must have been very hungry as a result of his hunger strike and so anything presented to him, must have registered before his reasoning as food to be consumed, but I disagree.
But come to think of it, his so called hunger strike is not up to a week, because am aware that people go on hunger strike for months for causes and their mental state remains intact. But all the same, that shouldn’t be a yardstick because one’s mental state as a person is always responsive to our actions and environment.
Therefore, my advise for the EFCC now is that they should better get a psychiatrist to examine the mental state of Olisa Metuh in view of his latest act, lest the next time, he attempts to eat his cloth or probably grass when he is being ferried to court.
