Gov. Ahmed Bags Awards

The Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin has conferred a Degree of Doctors of Science, Honoris Causa on the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed in recognition of his administration’s policy on education.

This brings to two the number of awards conferred on Governor Ahmed this week. Last Thursday, the Governor was conferred with the Raymond Dokpesi Peace Award 2012 at the fourth Raymond Dopkesi Center for Media Development Annual Lecture Series which held in Abuja. The Peace Award, which rewards significant contribution to peace in the country was conferred on Ahmed for promoting peace among the state’s diverse cultures and faiths and for his contribution to national peace.

Speaking at the Al-Hikmah conferment, Governor Ahmed said his administration’s policy on education, hinged on human capital development, was geared towards producing graduates at all levels of the education system that would be key players in national and world economies through an emphasis on functional education.

Governor Ahmed noted that conducive learning environment for functional education is being created in the school system through the rehabilitation of 200 blocks of classrooms across the State while Technical Colleges in Ilorin, Pategi and Erin-Ile were earmarked for rehabilitation in the first phase of a renewed effort to prioritise science and technical education.

He added that the International Vocational Centre, Ajasse-Ipo, which is currently under construction would produce high quality technical personnel as the school was designed to be the hub of vocational training in the West African Sub-region.

Governor Ahmed who praised the Al-Hikmah University for its contribution to the education sector through the production of high quality man power, also commended the institution for the conferment of honorary degrees on him and six other eminent Nigerians.
