At least 3 soldiers were killed yesterday while others sustained injury when suspected Boko Haram militant laid ambush on a Military patrol Vehicle in Maiduguri, Borno State.
A Part five Female Law student Halima Damchida and two other male students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) were also killed by un known assailants at the weekend in Maiduguri.
The slain soldiers who were on routing patrol with a view of ensuring security of lives and properties on Nigeria’ s anniversary day met their death when their vehicle hit an already planted Improvised explosive devise (IED).
The spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa confirmed the attack but in his usual characteristics denied the death of his colleges.
Musa in a statement said ” only two of our men were injured”.
But hospital source told Pointblanknews.com that three corpses of soldiers were brought in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital shortly after the incident.
” Two military patrol vehicle brought in three dead soldiers and some others that sustained serious injuries, in fact I doubt if the injured ones will survive because they were seriously injured.” The source said.
The soldiers, in their usal character anytime their colleague is killed, went on rampage burning cars and stalls close to the road side.
The whole street was immediately deserted as civilians left their cars and shops open for fear of being killed by angry soldiers For now most Unimaid Students particularly those living few meters away from the institution where the killings occurred are living in fear as they really can not figure out why their colleagues were killed.
Security forces have since cordon off the area as stop and search operation is intensified.
