Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has said that there are
prospects for Spanish companies to invest in the state, for economic and
social development.
The governor, who stated this during a meeting the Spanish Ambassador to
Nigeria, Mr. Alfonso Barnuevo and a representative of Spanish investment
companies said opportunities abound for accelerated development in the
state.
The focus of the meeting is a follow up to their last meeting in November,
2015 where they discussed likely investment in the areas of solar energy,
agriculture, water management and health among others.
Governor Ganduje reiterated commitment to ensure that investors from Spain
and other countries get the desired conducive environment for doing
business in the state.
He stated that his government is providing several incentives to encourage
Foreign Direct Investment emphasizing that besides being a sprawling
commercial center, Kano has mostly untapped potential for alternative
energy supply, agriculture mining and enterprising human capital.
On his part, Ambassador Alfonso Barnuevo told the governor that some
companies from Spain have indicated interest to invest in the Solar Energy
sector of the state and the administration’s proposed light rail project,
where the company is looking at the possibility of investing in couches,
after the provision of infrastructure for the light rail.
He stated that representatives from a Spanish Company will come to Kano
next August for further discussions on the solar power project among other
areas of interests.
The Ambassador expressed appreciation to Governor Ganduje for the warm
reception accorded to him and his delegation during their recent visit to
Kano to witness the famous Eid El Fitr Durbar celebrations, hoping the
cordial relation between his country and Nigeria would continue to
flourish.
