The Joint Task Force (JTF) says least 18 persons were killed yesterday when suspected Islamic Militant sect attacked different locations in Potiskum town, Yobe State.
Two serving policemen, a retired policeman and his three children, four civilians a retired custom officer and his son as well as 6 suspected terrorist were killed yesterday,spokesman of Joint Task Force in Yobe State Lieutenant Lazarus Eli said in an e-mail statement today.
The bodies of the deceased according to the statement were deposited at the mortuary of the Potiskum General hospital.
Eli said in the statement that the bodies of five suspected Boko haram terrorist” that were killed were carried away by their members as many more escape with gunshot injuries and the JTF is currently searching for possible discovery of their bodies.”
The spokesman state that the JTF has beef up security in Potiskum town and call on residents to report any body with questionable character in their midst and to cooperate with security agents in the search for peace in the state .
Meanwhile Military authority said an Improvised Explosive Devices IED has just exploded in Potiskum town.
“Detail report is still being awaited from our men on the field,” JTF spokesman said
Sources close to the seen of the blast said the explosion occurred around thje Potiskum Market and might have killed many traders and others in the market.
“The loud sound of the explosion was heard around the Potiskum Market and many people may have died because today is the market day. The market is full today,” a source told Pointblanknews.com
