Adeleke: Okupe faults media speculation On cause of death

by Our Reporter

Dr Doyin Okupe has faulted claims by an online portal that the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke died due to complications from an intravenous pain killer administered few hours before his demise.

According to Okupe, a medical doctor of high repute, the claim cannot be backed by medical science.

He said ” If he had pain in his legs that required intravenous analgesia the pain must have been of a severe nature. Cause of this may include deep venous thrombosis (DVT) . He probably needed some anticoagulant which may not be available in oshogbo. So the doctor may have tried to relieve the intense pain with the iv analgesic while he shops around for the anticoagulant. ”

Okupe said further ” The clot in his legs meanwhile may silently detach and move to the heart causing the devastating heart attack he suffered.”

” no iv injection of analgesic will mix with fluid and cause heart attack, as suggested  by Sahara Reporters. If he will suffer any deleterious effect from iv injection, most likely that will be a severe anaphylaxis  (allergic drug reaction) a well known potential complication of intravenous injections.”

“Sahara reporters is based in the USA they should have checked with a medical personnel before putting up this obnoxious and totally unscientific  story.”
Adding “An official publication of the post mortem report is an imperative under the present circumstances.”

The online newspaper had reported that Adeleke was killed by an overdose of painkillers administered to him by an unqualified medical technician.

According to the report ” The Senator received the medication following complaints of serious pain in his legs at the beginning of day-long political rally and meetings. On Saturday, he embarked on a series of political events, before heading out to the events he was complaining to his about the pain, and a quack administered the painkillers intravenously, relieving him of the pain.

“When he woke up he complained of chest pain and fatigue, shortly after telling his aides not to allow any visitors to see him he had a heart attack and was pronounced dead at Biket Hospital in Oshogbo . Preliminary results from pathologists showed that the intravenous medication, fluid laced with a huge quantity of painkillers conspired to block his heart leading to a heart attack that killed him.”
