by Our Reporter

Imo state government says it would soon close down some hotels in the state which do not conform to international tourism standard.

Gov. Rochas Okorocha who stated this while addressing members of the National Union of Hotels and Personal Services workers at Concorde Hotel, Owerri, insisted that there will be thorough inspection of hotels in the state to assess their standards.

He urged the union to address the issue of corruption and security, stressing that hotel management is the surest strategy to check criminality because most criminals hide in hotels.

The governor further lamented that most hotels have become havens for criminals and called on the union to discipline members who harbor criminals.

We are going to visit hotels in the state to ascertain their standard and those operating below standard would be closed.

Hotels ought to be a home away from home, he stated.
