As part of plans to clam down on opposition politicians, the Nigeria Police has invited Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for interogation.
In a letter dated August 20, 2018, from the office of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, it accused Chief Kayode of “criminal conspiracy, defamation, Inciting publication, injurious falsehood and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.”
Only recently, the police areested and detained Samuel Ogundipe, a journalist with Premium Times, accusing him of publishing a document considered “secret.”
The police wanted Ogundipe to disclose the source of a leaked memo on police investigation of the sacked Director General of the Department of State Service, DSS, to the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo written by the Inspector General of Police.
The Premium Times Journalist was released 72hrs after pressure mounted from Nigerians and civil society groups who protested the unjust detention of Ogundipe.
Reason for the invitation of Chief Kayode is not immediately known. But sources hinted that the PDP chieftain who is a fierce critic of the Buhari’s administration may have stepped on toes for revealing top secret of the Government in power.
Recently, Chief Kayode had revealed how the Buhari’s Government plans to rig the 2019 elections and arrest opposition politicians.
