Kebbi Requires 10,000 Additional Teachers, Says SUBEB Secretary

by Our Reporter

The Executive Secretary, Kebbi Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Sodangi Diggi, on Monday said the state requires 10,000 additional teachers to bridge existing teacher deficit.

Diggi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi that the additional teachers would help to improve students performance.

He noted that the dearth of teachers in primary and post primary schools was a huge barrier to the development of the education sector.

“We have constructed additional schools but some were only manned by three teachers.”

He said more teachers would be employed for the schools while those in service would continue to be retrained for optimal performance.

Diggi added that the board had in the last four years supported teachers without basic teaching qualifications to acquire the necessary certificates in line with the National Policy on Education.

“The board will sustain capacity building training to ensure that teachers are more conversant with modern trends.”

According to him, 5,000 Primary and Junior Secondary School teachers have been promoted as part of efforts to uplift the standard of education in the state. (NAN)
