The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.- Gen. Garba Wahab, has advised soldiers to be honest and hard working to ensure their progression in military service.
The GOC gave the advice on Sunday in Kaduna while addressing 320 Army Lieutenants undergoing tests for promotion to the rank of Captain.
Represented by Brig.-Gen. Ejema Ohifeme, Wahab said the examination was to assess their discipline and competence as well as their ability to lead the middle level base of the army.
He warned them against the use of “ fraudulent means” during the test, saying that any one caught would not be spared.
In a remark, Brig.-Gen. Abdul Sani, Chief of Staff, Nigerian Army and the examination coordinator, said that promotion in the Army was strictly based on merit and advised the candidates not to expect favours from anywhere.
He said that the candidates would be tested on their knowledge of the military profession and administration to determine their abilities in line with the ongoing transformation of the Armed Forces.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 320 Lieutenants were drawn from all the Army units from across the country.
