At least nine persons were killed while 19 others sustained severe injuries after two commercial buses collided near Benishiekh 60 kilometres away Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
The accident occurred when the tyre of an on coming commercial bus burst and subsequently swerve from his lane and ran into another commercial bus over 15 passengers on board.
Operations officer of the Federal Road Safty Commission (FRSC) rescue team Amos Thiza confirmed the incident on phone from Maiduguri today the
“the accident occurred at about 9am today near Benishiekh on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road, where two commercial buses collided, as a result of tyre bust of the Mafa Local Government bus with registration number, LG 09 MFA, ran into the other bus marked XA 519 GUBa”
” Nine passengers lost their lives on the spot while 19 others sustained various degrees of injuries at the scene of the accident”. Thiza said
Thiza further disclosed that out of the nine killed; three are children, adding that the 19 injured passengers were carried to the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri by FRSC rescue team for treatment.
