Many political observers have observed with keen interest, politicians as they ply their trade.
We have watched politicians make loud promises, promises the masses believed and hoped for,but as days go by,have seen those promises fade into thin air.
We have seen politicians commission completed(?) projects;and have watched with dismay, their successors come to tell the public that the commissioned(?)project was never built in the first t place, that the whole project and its commission was a fraud.
We have seen politicians award contracts to local and foreign contractors and paid huge mobilization fees and later paid the contractors in full only to accuse the contractors of abandoning the projects uncompleted. One begins to wonder whose responsibility it is to inspect and pay;the contractor or the government?
We do still observe as the same game is played in the judiciary.
We have watched with amazement the EFCC and other law enforcement agents report a crime and the judge strikes off the case for lack of credible evidence or other ridiculous reasons.
The masses have witnessed these and so many more,so much that negligence of duty, lies, deception and lack of patriotism better defines our politics and have found its way into the thinking of the youth as the surest way to success and part of our popular culture.
And now comes defection. With ease Nigerian politicians drop the manifesto of the party under which they made their promises and got elected by the masses. They drop the manifesto and the party to defect to another party and pick up a different manifesto which the majority of the masses never voted for
He does this without considering the wish of the people who voted him into power.
He gets selfish and goes for selfish gains. The judiciary is still struggling with the constitution to determine wether defectors should lose their offices or not.
The judiciary is yet to give a proper verdict on this and when it is given, the masses are yet to see it implemented.
Recently Mallam Nuhu Ribadu defected from APC to PDP.
In all his days in APC the good Mallam has disdainfully attacked everything PDP and every political decision that has the approval of the president Dr.Goodluck Jonathan. He has used every means to express his contempt and dislikes even when the ex- Adamawa state governor got himself into a mess and was being impeached.
At Nyako’s impeachment,Adamawa state is back under the control of PDP and the chances of APC winning the state in the coming gubernatorial election is almost impossible.
What if the APC knows very well it cannot win the governorship of Adamawa state considering the interest of Gen. Marwa and the behemoth-influence of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur?
What if the APC has weighed the chances of winning the presidential elections if it loses Adamawa to PDP?
What if the APC have considered these huge odds and came up with a master plan,a plan B,a plan to outsmart the PDP and still come out on top in Adamawa no matter which direction the cat decides to jump, left or right?
What if the APC believes Mallam Ribadu could be placed at high value by the PDP and that PDP,with a desire to weaken APC would offer whatever it takes to lure Ribadu into its fold and consider his defection a high prize.
What if Mallam Ribadu is asked to feign in-satisfaction with his party, the APC and whisper such to his close friends in PDP knowing that those close friends will go back to whisper this big piece of information into the right ears in PDP;and APC spies in PDP will keep on pushing for the purchase of Mallam Ribadu at any cost.
What if APC placed that price to be the control of Adamawa State and has instructed our good Mallam to demand from PDP a waiver and PDP’s candidature in the forthcoming election as the only condition for his defection, strategizing that if PDP falls into the trap,a free and fair election will be held in Adamawa. If APC’s candidate wins, good. If Mallam Ribadu under the banner of PDP wins,so much the better, before Mr.president could finish signing his congratulatory message, the good disciple has gone back to his true party, the APC where a bottle of champagne will be popped and toast to success.
Wishing him luck with Goodluck might turn out to be the truest wish of all times.
Well,so much for military and espionage strategies.I bow with deep humility to some of the nation’s Generals.Old wines in new wine skins. In statecraft no end to scheming.
Every loyalty deserve proof. As proof of Mallam Ribadu’s loyalty to his new party will he agree to a test? I’m not at liberty to suggest that he should forgo his gubernatorial ambitions as proof.
Will he agree to an equal playing terms with other aspirants or better still will he accept the fact that it will be most unfair to anoint him PDP’s candidate, after other aspirants  like Gen.Marwa and the current acting governor and so many others have shown much loyalty to the party while he was casting stones from APC.
In spirit of justice and fairness, will he prove his loyalty first by working to help his party PDP win the 2015 presidential elections at least in his home state even if the party does not let him carry its banner in the current Adamawa gubernatorial election,if his loyalty then is proved,he can be rewarded;than seeking reward before effort and desiring to reap where he did not sow?
Or will he go back to the APC if he fails to clinch the ticket?
Only time will tell.
