When I watched the rally of the APC in Ede yesterday where the former governor of The Old Oyo State, Chief Omololu Olunloyo was dancing the usual Skelewu with the outgoing governor of Osun state, canvassing votes for him in a state where he himself does not have a voting right, my heart bled and history came to mind. It is pertinent to remind Aregbesola and his co Skelewu dancers that the Omololu Olunloyo’s NPN did not only Rig Chief Bola Ige out of the governorship of the old Oyo State, they also massively rigged the 1983 election and unleashed electoral violence of unimaginable proportion on the country, in the march to one party rule and political monolithsm. Oyo, Ondo and Bendel States were snatched from the UPN while the other parties were equally decimated in what amounted to sheer electoral robbery. The violent protests that trailed that brigandage provided the opportunity for the sacking of the Second Republic by General Buhari and company on December 31, 1983.
