2015: Jonathan Is Free To Run says Lamido

by Our Reporter

Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido has said members of the new PDP were not against President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid, so long as it is guided by due process.

The governor, who alleged that the PDP had been hijacked by ‘brigands’ stated this yesterday when he received the Association of Former Members of House of Representatives in the Second Republic between 1979 and 1983, who paid him solidarity visit at the Government House.

“We are not stopping Jonathan from contesting, he is free to contest in 2015 but the process must be transparent and credible so that by the time we are through, it can be owned by the PDP.

“We cannot achieve these except we work under extant rules and regulations, Nigerian constitution, the party’s constitution, and its genuine convention from the grassroots.

“But the political party called PDP is our main worry, our main concern, because they say ‘soldier come soldier go’, president come president go, Obasanjo came under PDP, Yar’ Adua came under PDP, Jonathan came under PDP and therefore many, many more will come under PDP in the next one million years.”

“So our worry is the party, PDP. We feel there are a number of things going wrong and because we are the major party that formed the government, we must have what is called due process, rule of law, transparency and integrity in the systems.”

Governor Lamido said the PDP was built on a very clear history, to rescue and stabilize Nigeria to remain secure, united and prosperous, but regretted that the party had been hijacked by those he described as brigands and people who had no PDP history.

He said he and others who believed in philosophy behind the establishment of the party would continue to fight and preach for upholding of the party’s principles no matter what it would take as long as they were alive.

The governor noted that for the PDP to continue to produce Nigeriann’s presidents, justice, transparency and the rule of law must be sustained in the party to ensure it remained solid.

He said their dissenting voice was for the party to remain healthy and keep on producing Nigerian president.
