Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has relieved the
Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin of his
position.
Sources informed Pointblanknews.com that the decision was reached after
several meetings between the Speaker and President Mohammadu Buhari over
the 2016 Budget padding fraud.
According to sources, Rep. Jubril and some other unnamed persons in
Government were linked with the padding of the 2016 Budget.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that during several meetings with the
President, Dogara was presented with details of how the Budget was padded
by lawmakers and some Government officials.
The Speaker, sources hinted, pleaded with the President and promised to
handle the situation.
Dogara thereafter informed Rep. Jibrin of the outcome of his meetings with
the President and ask that he resign from his position as Chairman of the
Appropriation Committee.
But Jibrin claim in a press statement that he was not sacked but rather
resigned honorably to “let peace reign.”
His Press Release reads:
Abdulmumin Jibrin Steps Down As Chairman Of House Committee on Appropriation
Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin today announced his decision to step down as
the Chairman of the House of RepresentativesCommittee on Appropriation
after just nine months in the role.
Jibrin who made this decision known personally via his Twitter handle
@AbdulABMJ said he stepped down to let peace reign in the best interest of
the House and the country at large.
“Today,I stepped down as the Chairman of the House Committee on
Appropriation.
This was done in the best interest of the House and the country at large,
in order to let peace reign. It has been a rare privilege to serve first
as the Chairman House Committee on Finance and until now as Chairman of
the Appropriation Committee.”Jibrin stated on social media.
Jibrin who was also Chairman of the House Committee on Finance in the 7th
National Assembly expressed his profound appreciation to the Speaker and
his colleagues in the House.
He also cautioned some elements in the media who have made his decision to
step down a narrative of being sacked based on the illusions of their
creation.
While congratulating his successor, Hon, Mustapha Dawaki, Jibrin said he
will continue to serve his people and the country in his capacity as a
member of the House of Representatives.
The Kano State lawmaker who is currently serving his second term in the
House clinched the chairmanship of the Committeeon Appropriation in
October 2015 after withdrawing from the race for Speaker tothrow his
support behind the eventual winner, Honourable Yakubu Dogara.
Jibrin is seen as one of the most vocal and vibrant members of the House
and there is no doubt that his resignation willleave a huge gap in
Dogara’s camp and weaken his leadership within the House.
