Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Accord Party, unveiling the new platform on Tuesday as he positions himself for a fresh re-election bid in 2026.
Adeleke made the announcement at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
Speaking at the event, the governor said he quietly joined the party over a month ago after extensive consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This decision came after weeks of consultations and strategic deliberations,” Adeleke said.
He explained that the move was informed by the need to sustain what he described as people-oriented governance in the state.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State know why we are taking this important decision. We intend to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends which have earned commendation at home and abroad.”
The governor said Accord Party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s priorities, particularly in the areas of workers’ welfare, infrastructure development and social services.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its focus on citizens’ welfare reflects our passion for the wellbeing of the people. Governance must always prioritise human welfare.”
Welcoming party leaders into the Government House, Adeleke assured them of unity and commitment.
“You are now part of us, just as I am now part of you. We are united in purpose and progress for Osun State and Nigeria.”
The governor expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the next election.
“From Osun West to Osun East and Osun Central, this is our platform for victory come August next year. Osun voted for good governance in 2022 and will do so again in 2026.”
He urged residents across communities including Ilesa, Ife, Iwo, Osogbo, Ikirun, Ede, Ikire and Igbomina land to support what he described as a continuity agenda.
“The people are for continuity, and Accord Party is our vehicle to victory.”
The governor rounded off his address by formally declaring for the Accord Party and charging party members to begin mass mobilisation across the state ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
