The Chief of Staff to the President and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on Northern political leaders to stand firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a proven leader deserving of continued support.
He made the call during the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators, which he hosted in Abuja on Thursday.
Gbajabiamila urged the forum to rally behind Tinubu’s administration and second-term ambition, noting that national progress depends on unity, continuity, and respect for political agreements.
“President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along,” Gbajabiamila said. “From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the North is benefitting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity.”
He highlighted key infrastructural developments taking place across Northern Nigeria, citing road construction, rail expansion, and agricultural modernization as examples of the administration’s focus on balanced development.
“We are laying solid foundations today and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started,” he added.
At the end of the session, the forum presented a communiqué officially expressing their endorsement of the Southern Presidency and Tinubu’s second-term bid. The communiqué was jointly signed by Hon. Rufai Chanchangi, Coordinator of the Northern Caucus, and Hon. Atiwurcha, Secretary of the Caucus.
“We believe in equity, fairness, and political stability. It is in the best interest of the North, and of Nigeria as a whole, that the South completes its turn in the power rotation. We therefore endorse the continuation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership beyond 2027,” the communiqué stated.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, National Chairman of the National Forum of Former Legislators, commended the Northern Caucus for what he described as a “bold and patriotic stand.”
“This resolution by the Northern Caucus is a significant statement of statesmanship. It shows leadership that transcends personal or regional interest. I am confident that more zones will follow this example in the spirit of unity and continuity,” Igbokwe said.
The 2025 Dialogue Session is part of ongoing nationwide consultations by the forum aimed at promoting inclusive governance and fostering a stable democratic transition.
