The Senate has constituted a Probe panel to investigate the Group Managing Director, Nigeria National petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru over the award of over $26billion contracts without due processes.
Minister for State, petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu had in a letter to President Mohammadu Buhari alleged that the NNPC GMD awarded series of contracts totaling over $26billion in flagrant disobedient to laid down laws.
Kachikwu also accused Baru of insubordination and humiliation in the confidential letter to the President which has already gone viral.
While announcing the composition of the committee during plenary, headed by Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki said the contents of the letter, reportedly written to President Muhammadu Buhari by Kachikwu, must be investigated.
The committee is also expected to probe another claim that the Baru singlehandedly awarded a contract to a company, worth billions of dollars, despite its lack of capacity to handle such.
The panel, will among other issues also investigate the policy introduced by the NNPC Trading Limited, a subsidiary of the state oil corporation.
