A N20 million gift donated to the apex Igbo socio political organization,
Ohanaeze Ndigbo by a governorship aspirant in Abia state, Dr. Uche Ogah
has threatened to tear the body apart with a faction of the youth wing
demanding a share of the booty.
Recall that a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth council led by the
deputy chairman, Arthur Okafor, had yesterday, attempted to disrupt a
meeting of the organization presided over by President General, Ohanaeze
Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo Igariwey. Okafor and members of his faction had
taken some policemen from the Enugu Area Command to arrest the chairman of
the state chairmen of the youth council, Alex Okemini, but Igariwey later
pleaded with the policemen, promising to mediate between the parties.
A highly placed official of Ohanaeze Ndigbo who pleaded anonymity, told
Pointblanknews.com that Ogah who is engaged in a battle to be sworn in as
Abia governor had sent the gift through Igariwey, in a bid to curry the
support of the organization for his ambition.
To appreciate Ogah’s gift and assure him of support, Igariwey announced
the cancellation of a scheduled courtesy call on Tuesday 19th July, 2016,
to the embattled Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in Umuahia. The
visit was said to have been cancelled late Monday when all arrangements
had been concluded.
According to the source, “ Igariwey kept information about the donation to
himself and few trusted members, it leaked to some members who may have
incited a faction of the youth wing led by the deputy chairman, Arthur
Okafor, who stormed the secretariat where a meeting of Ohanaeze Ndigbo
were holding.”
Pointblanknews.com gathered that before Ogah’s donation, Igariwey was
battling to calm frayed nerves over the handling of another donation by
Gov. Rochas Okorocha for the recently held Igbo Unity Summit by Chief
Onwuka Ukwa who is yet to render account of the money.
Some members of the parent body of Ohanaeze and the Okafor faction of its
youth wing have threatened a showdown with the leadership over the
rendition of account on how the money, described as princely, was spent at
the summit.
