National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Martin
Agbaso, has told the stakeholders of the party that Governor Willie
Obiano’s support for the former national chairman, Victor Oye, may spell
doom for his second term ambition as any nomination form signed by Oye
remains void and of no effect.
Agbaso who stated that APGA will soon publish guidelines and date of the
governorship primaries, added that Obiano risk losing the APGA nomination
to run for the Anambra state governorship election fixed for November 18,
2017, if he fails to recognize him (Agbaso), as the national chairman of
APGA.
He vowed that there will be no automatic ticket to any party member, no
matter his position, as APGA is poised to organize a free and fair
primaries.
Agbaso, who was represented by the national publicity secretary of the
APGA, Barr. Nnanna Ukaegbu at a meeting of APGA stakeholders in Aba, said,
disclosed that over 7 eminent APGA members had expressed interest to vie
for the governorship primaries for the November 18 poll, stressing that
Obiano would be taking a risk if he allows Oye to sign any document in
favour of his nomination for the election.
According to him, “We can confidently tell you that APGA will win the
November 18 election, but Oye is working to ruin Obiano’s chances in the
election. Very soon, we will hold primary to elect our candidate. There
are lots of aspirants who have declared interest, but I assure them that
APGA under me will organize a free and fair primary election. There will
be no automatic ticket to any member, no matter his position.
“We urge Gov. Obiano to show leadership and see himself as the Chairman of
the APGA Board of Trustees and stop taking side. The governor is alone in
his support for Oye, all the leaders of the party are solidly with
Agbaso. If Obiano allows himself to continue to be misled by Oye, he is
toying with his chances of winning a second term in office.
“Victor Oye is not even a member of our party. I have severally challenged
him to produce any document which shows that he was a member of APGA
before being imposed on the party as national chairman, but he has not
been able to do that. From Oye’s actions since he was imposed as national
chairman, it is clear that he doesn’t understand the working of a
political party and had no business running APGA. Some of the people who
imposed him on APGA had since abandoned him.”
