Business activities were abruptly brought to a halt at about 2.30 P.M. Thursday at the New Road Luxury Park, Sabon Gari, Kano, northern Nigeria when a single explosion killed no fewer than four people and got many injured. The blast which also damaged a number of Luxury buses interrupted the movement thousands of South-bound travelers. Luggage, including assorted products owned by inter-state business men were also destroyed. The multi-million Naira Luxury Park is located in Sabon Gari, a community specially carved out by non-natives. Residents of that area have continued to express concern over the inability of security agencies to provide proper security for the people of
the area.
Pointblanknews.com reporter saw security agencies and Park Task Force were removing the bodies, including unspecified number of people who got injured. A worker at the Park who refused to reveal his identity (for security reasons) said the explosion occurred at about 2:30 p.m. when a Luxury bus marked Ifanyi Chukwu Motors was off-loading passengers.
In his words, “the Luxury bus just returned from Port Harcourt and was off-loading passengers when the blast occurred. No one can tell whether the bomb was planted inside the bus or the carts that were coming to take passenger’s loads. I may not be able to tell you the number of casualties, but I counted four dead bodies, while I saw many people with blood stain running for dear lives.”
Pointblanknews.com sighted the state Commissioner of Police, Adenrele Shinaba at the scene of the incident. Security agencies are yet to give their account of the incident as at the time of filing this report. It could be recalled that on Monday, 18 March, 2013, at about 4:30 P.M. when a fully-loaded Lagos-bound Gobison-owned bus was about leaving, a Golf car, casually drove inside the Park, beating all security suspicions. The suicide bomber in the car detonated high-profile explosive devices that killed scores and damaged about five luxurious buses.
