APC Says It’s Chairman Never Called For Probe of Supreme Court Judges

by Our Reporter

The All Progressive Congress, APC, has denied that its National Chairman,

Chief Odigie John Oyegun called for the investigation of Supreme Court
Judges.

Oyegun had while reacting to the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the
elections of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State said… “There is
obviously something fundamentally wrong in Rivers state which needs to be
investigated and addressed.

His comment was interpreted by a section of the media to meaning a call
for the investigation of the Supreme Court on the Rivers Judgment.

But in a statement from the APC, the National Secretary, Mai Bala Buni
distanced the Party from the comment, insisting that the Party Chairman
never called for the investigation of the apex Court judges.

The Statement reads:

The attention of the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) has been drawn to a report in the Vanguard newspaper of Thursday,
4th February, 2016 with the title “Oyegun Calls for Probe of Supreme Court
Judges” purporting to convey the reaction of the respected statesman to
the verdict of the Court on the governorship election in Rivers State.

The report goes ahead to state that Chief John Odigie-Oyegun “has called
for the investigation of Supreme Court judges.”

The Party wishes to deny this report in the strongest terms.

As much as he expressed “total astonishment” over the ruling of the
Supreme Court, the National Chairman of the Party, Chief John
Odigie-Oyegun, never called for the investigation of Supreme Court judges.

Indeed, a copy of the statement issued following Chief Odigie-Oyegun’s
meeting with the APC delegation from Rivers State was widely circulated.
At no time during the meeting or in the statement referred to did the
National Chairman make such a call for the probe of Supreme Court Judges.
What transpired at the meeting was correctly reported in other media
outlets.

Given that the author of the Vanguard report was not physically at the
venue of this event, but relied on this statement, it is baffling that he
gave this slant to the story.

The Party wishes to affirm that Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has the highest
regards for the judiciary.

Signed:

Mai Mala Buni
National Secretary
