The Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has expressed deep
concern over the spate of kidnapping and criminality in parts of the State
and restated his commitment to stem the unfortunate tide of events.
To this end, he said the government has finalized plans to unfold a
comprehensive security framework to address the current trend of
insecurity across the state.
Consequently, the governor warned that anybody found culpable will be
dealt with in accordance with the criminal laws of the state and country.
A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel
Iworiso-Markson said, people should not hastily ascribe motives behind the
recent kidnappings, as the said act is considered and treated as a purely
criminal one, pending the outcome of the investigation into the matter.
While pledging its resolve to deal decisively with those behind this
shameful act, the statement explained that, efforts were also being
stepped up to ensure the safety of lives and property of Bayelsans and
other residents.
At the meeting of the State Security Council today (Tuesday) in government
house, the government called on youths not to allow themselves to be used
under whatever guise to perpetrate any crime, as no one will be spared
when caught.
The statement enjoined the people of the State to go about their
legitimate duties without any fear of molestation, as the various security
agencies have been put on red alert to track down criminals and their
cohorts.
