The PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has called on opposition, organised labour, Civil Society groups and concerned Nigerians, to join hands with the party to fight the Boko Haram Sect.
Tukur, who made the call in Abuja on Wednesday when he briefed newsmen, described the menace of the sect as `evil’.
He said that the call for joint effort to address the activities of the sect had become necessary because the nation was under attack from all indications.
“Today, we witness people bombing Churches, Mosques, UN House, car parks and markets. To me, we are in a national attack.
“We cannot run our economy unless security is on the ground. One of the cardinal principles of our party is that we need to develop through peace and unity,’’ Tukur said.
He stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to address the country`s security challenges.
“We must all come together to fight that evil because majority of the people in this country are living in fear.
“All of us need to come together to fight as a community, this country needs to fight that evil called Boko Haram.
“My advice is that all of us, all Nigerians must put our hands on deck to fight the evil that we have seen manifesting.
“They break banks, police stations, break prisons, kill people indiscriminately; this is the reason why I am calling on everybody.’’
According to him, the insecurity in the country must not be seen as the problem of President Goodluck Jonathan alone but that of all Nigerians, the opposition, labour union and civil society groups.
He debunked reports of being at loggerhead with PDP governors, saying his relationship with them was 100 per cent.
Tukur said there was no competition between him and the PDP governors, adding that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and PDP governors were complementing each other.
The national chairman also said that the assumption that he was having a running battle with PDP governors only existed in the imagination of a group of people.
He maintained that he had the support of the governors, saying that they had confidence in him.
Tukur said that the PDP NWC had strengthened its resolve to support governors elected on the party`s platform. (NAN)
