The Borno State commissioner of Justice, Barrister Zannah Mallam Gana was last night shot dead .
Sources said Barrister Gana was killed by suspected members of Boko Haram sect in Bama local government.
Pointblanknews.com learnt he was killed alongside the former Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in that local Government who recently defected to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He was also chairman of the conference of PDP chairmen in the state.
Borno State commissioner for Information, Inuwa Bwala who confirmed the incident in telephone chat with Pointblanknews.com, said Gana was shot while on a social outing with some friends and colleagues.
Bwala however said unless investigations prove otherwise, the murders have some political undertone. According to him, even though it has not been confirmed that Boko Haram is responsible, the defection of the former PDP chieftain gave it some political slant.
” They were singled out in the group and shot by some unindenfied gunmen. unless investigations prove otherwise, the murders may have some political undertones. The man who was with him left PDP for ANPP”
The state Governor, Kashim Shettima, has cut short his stay in Abuja, and currently on his way back to Maiduguri.
