Tragedy has struck the family of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, as her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, passed away on Sunday.
Her death was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the family. According to the statement, Ruth died in the early hours of Sunday at about 6:30 a.m.
“It is with profound sorrow that the Otabor family announces the passing to glory of their beloved daughter, sister, and mother, Miss Ruth Otabor, which occurred on the 31st of August, 2025, at approximately 06:30 hours,” the family said.
They further appealed for privacy during this period of grief.
“The family is heartbroken and in deep mourning. They kindly request privacy as they come to terms with the painful loss. Details of the funeral rites will be made public in due time,” the statement added.
Ruth’s passing comes just weeks after she was involved in a devastating accident. On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, she was hit by a truck allegedly belonging to the Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. The truck crushed her leg, which later had to be amputated in hospital.
The heartbreaking incident occurred barely six days after Ruth completed her studies and graduated from Auchi Polytechnic.
