There is tension right now in Karu, a satellite town in Abuja as commercial motorcycle operators took to the streets to protest.
Although the cause of their protest is not known, their action has forced many to stay indoors as the protesters are going about destroying vehicles and attacking innocent persons.
It was gathered that the riot which started at about 11:o’clock in the morning has forced many churches in their area to lock their gates asking their members to remain inside the church so as not to be attacked.
Already, soldiers and police personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order are are currently battling the protesters who are fighting back with stones and other weapons.
Residents of Karu, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi among other towns in the area are trapped as residents and motorists alike have been asked to keep off the roads.
On Tuesday, according to and eye witness, a corpse was found close to the burial ground at Karu beside the fence of the Catholic Church.
“I was also informed that another dead body was found at the same spot on Friday.
“Consequently, the okada riders decided to protest and harrassed some passersby, especially those who worship at Catholic Church.”
Another resident of the area said, “my wife told me she saw group of boys gathered at the spot, the stream, on Thursday morning, and was told an okada ride was killed and dumped there.
“No worshipper of the parish was harassed or attacked, at least, I was at the Church by 6 am. and left after 9 am. My children attended 9 am mass. They were in the church when the protest erupted. It was 10 am mass that was cancelled.”
Recall that there has been tension in Abuja throughout the week following reports of alleged imminent attacks on some government facilities and VIP locations in Abuja.
