Buhari snubs South East, appoints kinsman, Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff 

Against the expectations of most Nigerians that someone from the South East should be included in the echelon of the Nigerian military, President Muhammadu Buhari has once more snubbed the zone today by appointing Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

The new COAS will replace the recently demised, General Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a fatal plane crash en-route Kaduna State along with other senior officers and crew members.

Until his present appointment, he was GOC Div. 1 and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI

Major General Benjamin Ahanotu who happens to be highest ranking officer is unfortunately from the South East and in line with the Buhari led administration to undermine the zone overlooked the officer for his kinsman.
