Bandits yesterday, killed two soldiers and abducted a Chinese in the Magama Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was learnt that the bandits attacked the Libale community in Nasko, but met with stiff military resistance.

This resulted in the exchange of fire between the bandits and the soldiers.

A security source told our correspondent that two soldiers were killed in the attack, while several bandits were killed.

However, the number of bandits injured or killed in the exchange of fire could not be ascertained.

A resident of the village said the bandits ran into the Libale Mountain area in the community.

It was also learnt that the military and other security agents were currently combing the mountain area and the forest with a view to apprehending the bandits.

The Chinese was said to be one of the workers of the construction firm handling a road project in the area.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, did not take his calls and had not responded to text messages sent to his mobile telephone.

Meanwhile bandits have invaded Dansadau, the second largest town in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting 18 persons, looting property and rustling animals.
An indigene of the town, Husaini Yanbiyu, told Pointblanknews.com that the bandits, who were in large numbers, came to the town around 4pm, carrying sophisticated weapons and shooting sporadically.
Yanbiyu said, “Everybody in the town ran helter-skelter to avoid being killed as the bandits were shooting from different directions.

“As I am talking to you now, there is nobody outside the town. Everybody is currently in their house because there are no security personnel here.”

When asked if there were casualties, Yanbiyu said, “Until we come out of hiding, nobody can tell if people were killed or not.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, said, “The police command is not aware of the 18 people said to have been abducted. On the issue of the invasion of Dansadau town by the bandits, I will get back to you.”
