With his retirement imminent on May 5th, 2022, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has intensified push for Service Extension, Pointblanknews.com authoritatively gathered.
Also, the former anti-corruption Czar is also ambitiously lobbying to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) at least, before he exits the Nigeria Police Force.
According to insider sources, he has concluded arrangements to mobilize many commissioners within the Police Service Commission (PSC) but he seems to be meeting a roadblock in the actualization of his ambitious plans.
It was further gathered by irrefutable sources the PSC had considered that Magu be demoted considering the allegations that eased him out of the EFCC, a situation that the Police high command found embarrassing.
However, the Chairman of the PSC and a former Inspector General of Police, Musiliu Smith is said to have resisted the suggestion of Magu’s demotion and even struck the idea out.
A presidency source also confirmed to Pointblanknews.com that Magu has been lobbying the presidency on the need to extend his service year, a move President Muhammadu Buhari is said to be considering.
This has however not gone down well with some members of the commission as a member, Haj. Najatu Mohammed is insisting that he proceeds on the retirement in May.
Magu Ibrahim Mustafa, a Commissioner of Police (CP) was enlisted into the Police Force on March 03, 1990 and is due for retirement on May 5th, 2022. He was promoted as CP 2018, and has been the most senior CP for over two years.
Reports had emerged that Magu who has been under probe over allegations of misuse of his office was actually penciled down for promotion from his present rank of Police Commissioner (CP) to Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, by the Police Service Commission (PSC), despite the alleged adverse recommendations of the Justice Ayo Salami panel that investigated the allegations.
However, in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency denied any involvement of President Buhari in the exercise.
