Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abia state, has arrested a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia state, Chief John Sunday Nwigwe, over a gift of 10 cups of rice and N5, 000 to a widow, Mrs Agboho Nwigwe  by the Member representing Arochukwu /Ohafia federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Uko Nkole.

The arrest came following a petition submitted to the secret service agency by the lawmaker.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Nkole’s aides had last week delivered the 10 cups of rice and N5,000 to the widow at his residence at Amaeke Abam, Arochukwu LGA  and made a video of the widow receiving the gift which they posted on social media.

Piqued by the video which went viral, the widow’s son, Sunday, who is said to be an unrepentant critic of the lawmaker, returned the items to Nkole’s elder sister. He accused Nkole of making the donation to ridicule his family and portray them as those incapable of taking care of their mother, adding that the widow has six children who provides for her.

Narrating his ordeal, Nwigwe said he got a call from the DSS to report at the Umuahia office by 12noon, Thursday.

“I received a call from the DSS, the caller asked me to report at their office in Umuahia with my mother on Thursday 12 noon.  I was scared on the invitation, but contacted some people who encouraged me to honour the invitation. I duly reported at the DSS office. I couldn’t go with my mother because she is aged. They brought up a petition from Hon. Uko Nkole accusing me of defaming him and what I know about a particular video which has been trending on social media. They detained me till the next day. I was only released on bail.

“My only offence is that Hon. Uko Nkole’s aides brought 10 cups of rice and N5, 000 to my mother and made a video of the gift. I knew that the action was meant to ridicule my family.  I immediately returned the gifts to Hon. Uko Nkole’s elder sister and bought a bag of rice for my mother. It was even his aides that accused him of directing them to make the video when my mother received the gift. Another offence I committed is that I have been criticizing his non performance since 5 years he was elected into the House of Representatives. There is no electricity in his community, Abam. No good road, what we have seen is that he continues to intimidate his constituents.”

A resident of Amaeke Abam said,”What is the offence of this poor widow and her son? What sin did Nwigwe Sunday and the aged widow, Mrs. Agboho Nwaigwe committed against Hon. Uko Nkole to warrant their invitation and unlawful detention? Is this not an act of wickedness and intimidation meted on this family? We hear he will be running for governor in 2023. What has he done for the Abam Onyerubi people? Nothing. Hon. Uko Nkole should be told that he won’t be in power forever.”

Attempts to get Hon. Nkole’s reaction to the incident was unsuccessful, as his mobile number , 08033360305, kept ringing without response.
