A nascent political group in Enugu state has warned opposition politicians
in the state to stop spreading fake news of an alleged frosty relationship
between Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and former Governor Chimaraoke Nnamani.
A statement signed by Edwin Obune, National Coordinator Enugu Youth
Coalition said such fake news are only aimed at straining good
relationship and create disaffection.
The statement reads:
“Ahead of the rescheduled March 9 governorship and state house of
assemblies election in Enugu State, our attention has been drawn to the
latest ploy by the opposition in the state to cause disaffection and
strain the good working relationship among the political leaders of the
state in all frontiers.
“We wish to alert the public that haven failed in their efforts to deceive
the good people of the state with their empty promises against the
re-election bid of the governor, the opposition have resorted to planting
fake, spurious and hallucinating stories in the media aimed at encouraging
the flow of blood in the channels of clean waters in the political matters
of Enugu State.
“Hence, we condemn the attempt to use the 2023 governorship election in
the state as a bait for participation in the upcoming March 9 governorship
and house of assembly elections in the Coal City.
“We also condemn the efforts to cause a head-on-colition between Governor
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and ex-governor Chimaroke Nnamani as well as other
political leaders of the state using the politics of 2023 as a cannon
folder.
“We are also aware of the unwarranted and unacceptable campaign of calumny
which the opposition have prepared and distributed such materials to
various media houses for dissemination against the state government in the
coming days.
“In this regard, we urge the electorates as well as all residence of the
state to ignore the sponsored fake news story currently making round in
the social media about the relationship between Gov. Ugwuanyi and ex-Gov.
Nnamani.
“Similarly, we call on the good people of the state never to allow
sponsored fake news reports of any kind to prevent them from coming out to
cast their votes for the re-election bid of the governor on March 9 as
only by doing so that the state will continue to be in the Hands of God
where good governance, infrastructural developments and human empowerment
and capacity development abounds for everyone.”
