Face-Off Looms as Wike-led PDP Faction Summons Emergency Meetings

A fresh showdown is looming in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as loyalists of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, move to convene an emergency meeting in Abuja, just 48 hours after the party announced their expulsion at its national convention in Ibadan.
At the National Elective Convention on Saturday, the PDP expelled Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and several other loyalists of the former Rivers State governor.
Undeterred, the Wike-led faction on Monday issued a notice summoning members to a meeting at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The notice, signed by factional National Secretary Senator Anyanwu, called on members of the National Executive Council (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) to attend, describing the gathering as mandatory since “crucial matters will be discussed and addressed.”
The move signals a likely showdown between the opposing blocs amid the party’s deepening crisis.
Observers say the convention, which went ahead despite a court injunction sought by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and without oversight from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), may eventually not ease the party’s woes.
Plagued by internal disputes and legal battles, the PDP faces an uncertain future as it struggles to navigate what many describe as a storm of self-inflicted crises.
