Mike Zuckerberg, the Billionaire founder of Facebook and one of the
world’s most prolific social media sites, arrived in Nigeria today
according to numerous eyewitness accounts.
Mr. Zuckerberg and his wife were in Rome, Italy this week while he met
with the Pope and enjoyed some local tourist attractions. From Italy, it
is now known, he traveled to Nigeria.
The first photos to emerge from this unannounced visit are of him meeting
with tech entrepreneurs and youth in Yaba, Lagos. Yaba is considered to be
the tech center of Nigeria and houses numerous creative spaces and tech
start-ups.
It will be recalled that Facebook and Mr. Zuckerberg’s own philanthropy
has increasingly focused its attention to the continent of Africa. The
Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative invested heavily in Andela, a tech and coding
company providing training to young tech engineers has generating a lot of
buzz in Nigeria and Africa more generally. Facebook is also holding
workshops for tech developers this month in Nigeria, Kenya, and South
Africa.
Mr. Zuckerberg delivered some brief remarks at the Co-Creation hub in Yaba
expressing an interest in learning more about the entrepreneurial space
and activities in Nigeria.
