Former NDDC Acting MD In N6billion Contract Scandal, Agency Demands Explanation

Former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Corporation, NDDC, Dr. Enyia Akwagaga, awarded a contract for seven skills acquisition programs for N6,404,000,000, (six billion, four hundred and four million and paid sixty percent without verifications, a document obtained by pointblanknews.com reveals.

According to the documents, while the contract was awarded in August 2019,  in September 2019, some of the companies awarded the contracts provided invoices and were paid 60 percent of the total sum amounting to N3,900,000,000. (Three Billion, Nine Hundred Million Naira).

The contracts which were in 136 slots were for entrepreneurship programs such as building skills training, tailoring/fashion design training, web application and design training, digital photography training, Cake Making and confectionaries, and baking/bread making training.

A letter sent to the former Acting MD, Dr. Akwagaga, is requesting that she explains the reasons for the award and why payments were made without verifications. The letter signed by the Acting Executive Director of Projects, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh is demanding explanations within seven days.

The Senate had in May 2020 begun probing N40billion alleged illegal expenditures at the NDDC under the Interim Management Committee headed by Dr. Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei
