Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, has announced that the election of the Chairman of its forum has been postponed till May 2013.
The Forum has been in a meeting at the Rivers State Governor’s lodge, Abuja, primarily to elect a new Chairman. Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State yesterday emerged as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors.
Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State who has been Chairman of the NGF has had his tenured riddled with controversies over his alleged intention to run for Vice President in 2015 and what insiders term his “disrespect to President Jonathan.”
With the postponement Amaechi will remain in the saddle until fresh elections are held.
Mr. Amaechi, who is governor of Rivers state, and chair of the governors’ forum recently found himself in the crosshairs of President Goodluck Jonathan and leaders of his People’s Democratic Party. The presidency had plotted to use today’s meeting to remove him from the powerful position.
